Argentinean-born opera director and choreographer, Eleonora Acuña, received a Master's Degree in Opera Direction from the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón and the title of dance professor from the Escuela Superior de Danzas, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During her years in Argentina as a student and later as a professional choreographer and opera director, Ms. Acuña worked with numerous artists of international acclaim, including the famous tenor and conductor José Cura, Carlos Duarte, winner of the Pavarotti Competition, and composers Irma Urteaga and Alicia Terzian. In Argentina she directed many operas at the Teatro Colón and other theatres, including Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, which she also choreographed, a series of operas by Menotti, La Traviata, The Barber of Seville, Rita, and Zarzuelas (Spanish operas), among others. Internationally, she has directed operas in Ecuador, Uruguay, Chile, and has worked as an opera coach with the UBC Opera, as a choreographer with the Gilbert and Sullivan society, and has produced several dance performances and concerts at the Vancouver Public Library, the Scotiabank Dance Centre, Christ Church Cathedral, and St. John's United church.
